Octopus Intelligent Tariff

Octopus Energy Intelligent Charging

What cars will it work with - what chargers will it work with and how to set it up once you have all your bits installed and delivered.

The Octopus Intelligent Tariff uses whats called Dynamic Scheduling to offer you the electricity when it's at its cheapest - this is most often overnight - but not always.

The system does this by taking control of your charging setup. So you either need a car thats compatible - or a charger that is.

Note that if you use a compatible charger - then the tariff will work with ANY Electric or plug in Hybrid vehicle - but if you don't choose a compatible charger - then you MUST have a compatible car.

So which chargers then?

Currently the list is quite limited - and some charge point manufacturers do claim compatibility - but if they are not listed on the Octopus Website (Check by clicking the pink button below) then you will have limited functionality - and it may not work as expected.

On the list you will only find:

Zappi, Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, Ohme Home Pro, Ohme ePod, All Wallbox products and Indra.

At EV Electrical we can supply and fit all of the above models (we cover an area of 40 miles from Stansted Airport).

So - if you chose one of the listed models - then you are good to go - but if you don't want one of them - you need to make sure that your car is compatible. This is where it gets a bit trickier - and you need to check on the Octopus website on the EXACT make and model of car or van you are looking to get - because it is very hit and miss (for example only some models of VW are compatible).

So - lets say that you have your compatible charger - or vehicle - or both - the next step in setting this up can be quite frustrating - you will have 3 Apps - the Octopus App, one for your car and another for your charger. What you cannot do - is have them set up so that they are all competing for control over when your car is going to charge up.

Ultimately - the Octopus App needs to be in charge (imagine an Octopus wearing the trousers!) - so you need to carefully turn off all schedules and limits that may be set up in your Car or Charger Apps and this may not be obvious to you when you are in the App.

Fortunately the guys at Plug'n'Play from VCHRGD have released this awesome YouTube video that walks you through the setup in great detail - we recommend that you watch it all the way through as it will save you from making mistakes on the setup and having to start over.

We hope you find this useful - and if you would like to get a quotation from us to have an EV charger fitted - then please fill out the contact form below and we will be in touch.

HAPPY CHARGING!
