We were responsible for all aspects of the project management, manufacturing, civils and electrical works on this one of 2 ‘Art Deco’ style digital structures installed alongside the A4 Great West Road on 2 TfL owned traffic islands. What you can’t see from the photo’s is that the piling and substructure for this screen is deeper than it is tall and spans the whole width of the island.
With a great deal pf planning - and working with precision steelwork contractor INKK Steel and Digital - this huge structure was carried from Grays all around the M25 with a wide load escort - and then lifted into place using a 60T crane. It was almost an anticlimax as the lifting on and bolting down only took a few minutes.
Careful planning of the electrical works was absolutely key - as we only had one shot at getting the cabling from the inside of the leg and into a waiting hole in the foundations during the lift - but all went well on the night and it was wired, tested and commissioned within a few days of landing.
